Economy and Chocobos

First of all, let's start with buying Chocobo off the +market to convert to a mount: You have to combine units of Market-bought chocobo for an ordinary, ho-hum riding chocobo, and in the following ratio:

Market Chocobo = 1 = 0.35 (this means you'll need at least 3 market units to get a crappy riding chocobo)

Yellow Chocobo = 3 = 1

Healthy Yellow Chocobo = 5 = 1.75 (round down)

Blue Chocobo = 20 = 7.5

Green Chocobo = 20 = 7.5

Red Chocobo = 50 = 15

Black Chocobo = 75 = 20

Gold Chocobo = 100 = 30


Using the above table, if you were a hunter and managed to pull down a Healthy Yellow Chocobo, it would be worth 5 Chocobo Market units to sell. (done via +request)

Combining Chocobo into a Mount

If you or another player has the appropriate Animal Training +research completed, your +hunted or +market-bought Chocobo can be converted to a +beast-generated riding chocobo, using the table above to determine the quality/level of the creature. Note that you may not combine chocobo of unequal color, for this purpose. They all have to come from one type/color of chocobo.

As per the +research for the Animal Training, to actually tame the chocobo: "You may now train an animal pet using Farming+Farming/Animal Handling+Charisma, requiring 10 succs in 3 rolls. Some especially ornery animals may require more succs. Only one permanent pet may be had at a time."

Note: You may also use the Tame special, and if posessed, is rolled in conjunction with the farming rolls, thus adding to the successes.

Taming chocobo difficulty rolls:

+market chocobo, roll Charisma+Farming+Farming/Animal Handling vs 9, score a total of 10 successes across three rolls.

Yellow Chococo: roll Charisma+Farming+Farming/Animal Handling vs 10, score a total of 10 successes across three rolls.

Healthy Yellow Chocobo: roll Charisma+Farming+Farming/Animal Handling vs 11, score a total of 10 successes across three rolls.

Green/Blue Chocobo: roll Charisma+Farming+Farming/Animal Handling vs 12, score a total of 10 successes across three rolls.

Red/Black Chocobo: roll Charisma+Farming+Farming/Animal Handling vs 12, score a total of 12 successes across three rolls.

Gold Chocobo: roll Charisma+Farming+Farming/Animal Handling vs 12, score a total of 15 successes across three rolls.


You can roll multiple +hunted chocobos into a single riding chocobo, up to +beast level 15.

How good a chocobo can I get from buying +market units?

You will never be able to buy off of +market any better than a regular Market Chocobo; the best breeding stock is in the wild.

Chocobo Breeding

Next, Chocobo Breeding. (For this, you must have unlocked the Chocobo Breeding +research)

Once per OOC month, a character can spend a Carob Nut and attempt to breed a pair of chocobo. Ask a wizard to witness the chocobo breeding, and make the appropriate rolls, using the following modifiers:

Breeding Table Modifiers

The table for breeding is as follows:

Modifiers for Carob Nut quality: -10 / 0 / +10 for poor/average/masterpiece.

Modifier for Farming/Chocobo: Add you rating in Farming/Chocobo to the +dice roll to follow.

Breeding Stock Bonuses: (These stack with the pairing, meaning if you're breeding two Market Chocobos, the total penalty is -80 to this roll, or if a Gold Chocobo and a Red Chocobo, +30. No, you can't breed more than 2 chocobo.)

Market Chocobo: -40

Yellow Chocobo: -20

Healthy Yellow Chocobo: 0

Blue/Green: +5

Red: +10

Black: +15

Gold: +20

Breeding Chart

Once you've calculated your net penalties and bonuses, +dice 1d100, and add/subtract the bonus/penalty. Total indicated as follows:


0 or less: Breeding fails, try again next month.

0 -39: 1 Market Chocobo is produced.

40-75: 1 Yellow Chocobo is produced.

76-100: 1 Healthy Yellow Chocobo is produced.

101-130: +dice 1d2; on a 1, a Blue Chocobo is produced, on a 2, a Green Chocobo

131-140: 1 Red Chocobo is produced.

141-150: 1 Black Chocobo is produced.

151+: 1 Gold Chocobo is produced.

Your rideable +Beast

Once this is accomplished, you can use +beast Normal Chocobo=X, where X is the appropriate level for the chocobo, and then @puppetify to make the chocobo into a puppet.

So what are Chocobo good for?

Riding, of course. They enjoy bonuses from +move/run:


Market, Normal, and Healthy Yellow Chocobo all run at 1.5x their listed +move/run speed.

Green/Blue run at 2x their listed +move/run speed.

Red and Black run at 2.5x their listed +move/run speed, and Gold Chocobo run at a blistering 3x their normal +move/run speed.


Blue Chocobo get the Water-Walk special at a rating equal to their +beast level.

Green Chocobo get the Mountain-Walk special at a rating equal to their +beast level.

Red Chocobo get the Mountain-Walk special and Choco-Meteor at a rating equal to their +beast level.

Black Chocobo get Water-Walk and Mountain-Walk and Escape at a rating equal to their +beast level.

Gold Chocobo get Water-Walk, Mountain-Walk, Escape, and Fly at a rating equal to their +beast level.


Additionally, some certain specials (such as Mounted-Charge) require one to be mounted to perform them.
