House Langsly
General Information
House Langsley is a house that has a history of engineering influence that was founded by the (now presumed dead) Miria Langsly. Most of the earlier House members are no longer known to exist, but the members of the House come from a long line of those skilled in scientific development.
History
House Langsly was different from the other Noble Houses in it's creation and subsequent years of existence in that it was a House in which the blood of the one who founded could still be thought of in recent memory. The wandering, draconic creature to which it was named had little known of her past beyond the fact that she was a refugee from Wutai, having come to the Empire in the dimmest hope that she, having lost her mother to murder and her father to war, could begin life anew in a foreign place.
Being a creature of an intense fascination for tinkering and technical development in a world that shunted it, her talents were largely unappreciated and undesired. Had she continued about her business as usual without intervention, there is a good chance that the founder would of been dealt with like many of the Heretics at the time. However, having met a sorceress by the name of Sunami, her weak physique and stature was made up for by having the larger creature's support in magical ability. Together, the two eventually formed a shop together, better known as 'The Dragon's Haven', and the vaguely known Miria established a front for her heretical habits, serving the city as one of it's premiere alchemists for some time. In time, the dragon began to learn of how dangerous her true profession truly was, and thus she hid it in a veil of secrecy. The exact nature of her mechanical habits were never known as she rarely discussed them, and most of the things she created, save for a patented parachute, would never be found or heard of, presumed to have been destroyed.
The Haven became true to it's name over the years, ending up as a small locale that often hid away heretics that Miria desired to coddle and keep safe from a dangerous outside world. Having gained a small amount of reputation and a bit more experience over her stay in New Junonsberg, she began to travel more regularly about the city, eventually becoming friends with one of the Queens of Drominham. Other acquaintances popped up over the years, especially a particular coon named Hatch, who was a distant love interest, even if it's never known if the two ever bedded. She befriended a few nobles, like Taross Blackburn, and Ryais Del-Ranessa, as well as a consort of his, Thirteen, the guard Sigma, and various other names that would be lost to time..
Regardless of the efforts, however, there was little chance of one gaining noble status by being a successful merchant or any amount of bribery. A distant dream for herself and her surrogate family, the dragon expected that it would never become reality. Fate, however, had offered a good hand..
The Flame of Justice, a great mage turned rogue, had somehow felt himself wronged by the king, and the disheartened magic user began to run a spree of terror and destruction through his powerful use of the arcane. Not only was he difficult to defeat, but the mage himself was also very mobile. He attacked quickly and left quickly, but his ego gradually overwhelmed him, and when Miria engaged him with her consort Sunami and her friend Hatch, along with a few of the town guards, the group fought a prolonged battle with the individual, ultimately destroying a sizeable portion of the city. Eventually, the mage was caught off guard when the dragon prepared to ram her only other possession, her airship, into the mage himself. Though he managed to avoid the blow with some skill, he inevitably lost when Sunami petrified him in his tracks, leaving the wounded mage immobilized.
The capture of this wanted criminal was enough to impress the very King of Junonsberg himself, and thus Miria was given status as a noble. The wealth and fame that resulted eventually led her to greater heights. Eventually, the dragon began to become overwhelmed by her desire to see her brethren engineers find peace in secrecy, so after many efforts of diplomacy, she eventually was given status as an Inquistor by the Grand Inquisitor, Ryais. The move was somewhat seen as a surprise, and the details behind it are known only to Ryais himself. Eventually, Ryais was forced to take an extended leave, and in his place, she was granted his title. With it, the Inquisition began to become lax in dealing with Heretics, and thus her desires began to gain fruition.
Some time during her time in the city, the creature and magitech practitioner, Seilderhang, wandered into her shop. Having gained many additional responsibilities and having nearly lost her focus as an inventor, Miria was heartened to find someone that still showed her past youth. She brought Seilderhang into her family and adopted her as a mother would a child, and kept her mostly hidden away like many of her projects.
At some point, the dragon had a child. It's unknown of who was the father, but the baby held the name of Astra. The new dragon was strange in that she was far less fragile then her mother, and carried none of the problems that plagued her parent. She was, in the eyes of Miria, a perfect child. Of course, with her current state, it seemed to become difficult to deal with a child and attend to her demanding life.
Of course, this was not to be forever, and in time, Miria began to lose herself. A insane magical creature attempted to enter her home and kill her child, whom she, in a fit of rage, beheaded violently. Circumstances that have never been fully documented led to her gradually changing in appearance, as well, rumored to be tainted by the trickery of an Esper. Eventually, she began to become more aloof and more distant, and her appearances in the city became a rare sight. Rumors of her appearing as other creatures under her Inquisitor's white veil were commonplace, and her once great reputation was slowly shattered into pieces. The dragon became a whispered name, and one day, after leaving little more then a note upon the counter of her store named Seilderhang as her heir to the Langsly name (should her daughter never see the city again) , she left the Empire with her child, never to return.
It's unknown as to where she went, truly. Word got to the city that she left for the Northern Continent, with others speaking of her traveling in search of the fabled Round Island in hopes of finding peace on a stolen airship. Regardless, her name lives on today in Seilderhang, and the legacy of the Langsly House is persisted by those of the new Langsly herself, earned, and not forgotten.
